Day Hike Outside DC: Great Falls

Located only 15 miles from the US Capitol is Great Falls. It’s a great day hike that lets you unwind from the city life and connect with the outdoors. What I really enjoy about the hike is that the trails run right along the Potomac River so there was a great view the majority of the hike. I went with some friends from college, so it was 3 miles of good company.

NOTE: Getting to Great Falls is a $20 admission fee.

We discovered a little trail off the main one and hung out in a rocky section of the Potomac. We climbed the large boulders and even enjoyed a mini waterfall to ourselves.

I definitely recommend this hike, but that’s if you’re okay with the admission fee. By the welcome center is a large lawn area where many people were having picnics and there are food trucks and snack stands to treat yourself after a hike!
