After a 5 hour drive from Savannah, GA, I picked up my best friend, Wade, that flew in from Florida to come to see me in Atlanta. I booked this super cute Airbnb that was hostel style. I was super excited because I felt that a hostel would be a perfect way to meet new people. There were different individuals from different places. Like any best way to bring the party and make new friends, Wade and I stopped by the liquor store prior to coming to offer drinks to the others staying. It was a really nice welcoming in which I met Winnie, an international student from Congo, a girl that worked at the Georgia Aquarium, a guy who works in IT, another international student from Japan. While I saw some people more than others, we were able to hang out with these people or say hi to them during our entire stay. Often, some would accompany us on our adventures.
The Room: The hostel rooms are set up really neat. Each guest basically has their own space that is made private by a curtain and thin, plywood walls. However, the host makes it clear that when in the sleeping quarters, it is a quiet zone. There is a kitchen area both downstairs and upstairs as well as common areas. The bath area is a shared space. The host is a tasteful decorator that provides a cozy home away from home. There are also two friendly dogs that are on the property.

Safety: Hostel life means sharing a space. Not everything is made private, but in this experience, I felt completely safe. However, most hostels such as this one have a locker area if you feel the need to stow away your valuables. I personally had no reason to 🙂
The Cost: My stay at the Bungalow Hostel was $32/night but since I stayed a week, I got a 10% discount on top of that! Not bad for such a cute place.
In short, my first hostel experience was great and I had too much fun staying there with late-night talks, going out, and shenanigans. If you haven’t tried the hostel life, I definitely recommend it if you are trying to meet new people during your travels.
